Since October 31, 2009, Street church has taken place each Sunday at 5:30 pm (outside) Downtown Greenville- Rutherford Street- Labor Finders parking lot. Worship, music, prayer, and The Word are shared, giving opportunity for all to experience the life changing power of the Savior. Following ministry, the Street Church team of volunteers are prepared to serve all with a “hope bag” filled with a meal to go, water, Bible, and personal care items. A grocery box, clothing, and other needed items are available. Street Church attendees are not all homeless, many have homes, and many do not. Many are in great need and many come not out of need but for a life circumstance to be changed. Some of the attendees have chosen to come because it’s a place where someone will take time to share conversation and listen. Some have shared that they want to be outside rather than inside walls. Some come to keep from being alone. Many choose to be a part of the worship because they love the music and the preaching! Street church attendees walk, ride bikes, come in wheel chairs, and cars and all come because of “the presence of God that is there.” Street church is now its 10th year. Attendance varies each week: 100-200 and as high as 400. Street Church Ministries gives every praise to our faithful God for the life changing transformation that He has brought to hundreds and now thousands who have heard the life Changing Word of God. As life transformation has come, they have left the streets, become employed, acquired a home, received healing, experienced deliverance from alcohol and drug addictions, had their families restored, and live in hope now and for eternity.
There remains the heart breaking reality that there are thousands still existing in desperate life circumstances, still unreached with the hope that can change their lives forever. Street Church is meeting them where they are. The ministry of Street Church is made possible through the support of the Street Church Partners. Thank you Partners and especially to our great team of volunteers. BECOME A PARTNER OF HOPE TODAY!
STREET CHURCH ...... Street Church began in October 2009 as a weekly ministry from the passion of Darlene Smith-Atkins to touch the lives of people with life changing hope outside the walls. Pastor Darlene shares that she knew well how to minister “inside the walls” after (at that time) over 30 years of traveling in evangelistic ministry and then pastoral ministry with her husband Rev. Randell Atkins. She was overwhelmed with a desire to not only minister inside but to go outside to people where they were in the middle of their place of hurt, desperation, hunger, illness, and hopelessness. It was after a journey through life changing circumstances: three year cancer battle that took her to death and back (1990-1993), then a “rain” of traumatic loss, and near hopelessness that brought her to a place of crying out, “Lord, what sense is there in all that has happened, what is the purpose of all this touching my life? It will all have been for nothing if it does not bring praise, honor, or glory to You. Let it all somehow bring hope to the most hopeless.” She began to drive the streets of downtown Greenville and the surrounding neighborhoods and her lifelong passion of helping the needy and struggling began to become overwhelming. Pastor Darlene says, “It was the looking into the faces of hopelessness, lostness, hurting, and struggling and their silent cries- that I could hear as I looked into their face that compelled me to go to them with the hope I knew could transform their lives and circumstances forever.” Partnering, supporting, encouraging, and standing beside her were her “Pastor husband,” daughter, and son in love, who share the same great passion and mission to see lives changed now and for eternity. Joining a team of volunteers committed to reach out with them! Reach Out With Hope ...The Gospel To All The World ....that they may hear.. know Jesus... and be forever changed!
